A more practical approach to closed loop water treatment.
Hi, I’m Tom - founder of Independent Water. I’ve been working in water treatment since 2014, when I started out in an Alabama steel mill doing everything from cooling and boiler systems to running jars for the wastewater backend. The systems were large, complicated, and took multiple water treatment reps onsite to manage effectively. That environment gave me a deep appreciation for how critical proper water treatment is and how quickly things can go wrong when it is not handled well.
A few years later, my wife and I moved back to Virginia to be closer to family as we started having kids - we’re currently up to three. I also assumed ownership of a local water treatment company, Chemical Supply Inc., and have been growing its boiler, cooling, and closed loop treatment services. Managing this company gave me a front-row seat to a different side of the business: not just the labor and technical side, but the real operational cost of delivering it as well.
The moment things really clicked for me was when I was bidding a job about two and a half hours away - a facility with just two closed loop systems. The largest portion of the cost in providing the water treatment program was not the chemicals, but the time spent driving to the facility itself. From the customer’s standpoint, the value I provided had nothing to do with the drive. The value was the technical ability to keep their systems clean and the chemicals and equipment to do so. I realized there was a much better way to deliver that, and so Independent Water was born.
With Independent Water, customers send me their water samples using shipping labels we provide. Many closed loop systems do not require a water treater to physically come onsite. What they need is a solid plan, accurate testing, the right chemicals and equipment, and someone to call with questions or if something goes wrong. We test the water, ship the chemicals, and provide clear treatment recommendations - removing unnecessary travel costs while improving consistency and oversight.
I’m based in Virginia and personally stay involved in every program. This isn’t a call-center model - when you work with Independent Water, you’re working directly with someone who’s spent over a decade in the field and is always accessible. You’re welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn or reach out through the Contact page. I’d be happy to talk.
Whether you're ready to get started or simply want to discuss your system and treatment goals, we'd be happy to help.
